Cozy those toes up for the cold seasons.

When cold weather hits, your desire for breathable cycling clothing and accessories become suddenly at odds for your need to cover up. While highly ventilated gear is terrific for airing out moisture and sweat, it's awful in the wintertime when you’re trying to stop the wind from chilling your entire being. You can bundle up easily for cold-weather rides, and when it comes to warming the feet, consider wearing the shoe cover.

Not just for snobby hypebeasts who need to keep their shoes in pristine condition, a solid shoe cover can provide extra heat for your feet and toes, and stymie that dreaded pair of wet socks from rain or snow. Need a pair? Check out one of these pairs of overshoes and toe covers for your next ride.

You have a few choices when it comes to shoe coverings for cycling, the most common being overshoes and toe covers. Overshoes, as their name suggests, cover the entirety of the shoe. These are often used for weatherproofing and keeping your entire foot dry, warm, and debris free. Toe coverings, on the other hand, protect the forefoot, and provide extra warmth by stopping windchill, though most toe coverings also provide some water-resistance.

It's also helpful to consider what you’ll be wearing underneath your shoe coverings, and for what purpose they’ll be used. For example, those needing to cozy up may want some overshoes with high ankle collars to protect the ankles from windchill and water, and some interior lining. Those who need weatherproofing should look for coverings with technologies such as Gore-Tex or Polartec for added element protection.

To find the best shoe coverings on Amazon, including overshoes and toe covers, we checked out dozens of products from top-rated cycling brands like Giro, Pearl Izumi, and Shimano. We took the technical specs on each product and noted what users were saying about every product's performance. We also consulted our own guides to the best rain gear for cyclists and the best waterproof cycling apparel for additional info on what makes a solid shoe cover for weatherproofing. All of the cycling shoe covers you'll find below are user favorites, as well, with each earning an average user rating of 4 out of 5 stars or higher.

Tough, yet soft-shelled, these toe covers from Pearl Izumi offer incredible cold-weather protection. They use durable Kevlar fabric on their underside for increased abrasion resistance and scuff prevention, while an adjustable hook-and-loop closure helps ensure a great fit. They work well with both road and mountain shoes, and they have plenty of reflective elements, thanks to BioViz technology.

Best yet: They’re also completely windproof and waterproof.

Made with an incredibly tough Kevlar fabric, these shoe covers protect most of the forefoot from windchill and water. They’ll keep your toes warm while you’re out in cold weather, and like many Rockbros products, they’ll cost significantly less than bigger brand names.

They’re elasticized for easily stretching over the shoes, and while they’re not entirely waterproof, they’re water-resistant. They also have reflective accents for increased visibility at night. The only downside? They come in only sizes S/M and L/XL, fitting men's shoe sizes 6 to 12, so those with smaller or larger feet may have trouble slipping them on.

Many shoe and toe covers are purely water-resistant, but not waterproof. This pair from Fizik is guaranteed to keep your feet both warm and dry during the brutal conditions of the coldest months. Rather than pull them over your shoes with elasticized bands, these covers have zippered closures for an easy fit. They also have rubberized outsoles for great grip while in use, and have reflective accents and piping for visibility at night.

With strong neoprene and three-layer breathable, waterproof fabric, many reviewers say these covers are incredibly warm and reliable, even in the harshest conditions.

Breathable, windproof, waterproof, and ultra-tough, these overshoes from Gore Wear are some of the toughest on the market. They’re made with abrasion-resistant polyester that promises year-round weather protection from rain, snow, and heavy moisture. They also have Velcro closures that can be used to adjust the right fit over your pair of casual sneakers or cycling shoes.

Several reviewers say these overshoes are great for rainy weather, and they even fit well when tossed over a pair of insulated winter boots.

Simple, straightforward, and affordable, Giro's Ambient toe covers are water- and wind-resistant for some light weatherproofing, and super compact for packing away. They have a durable toe guard in case you kick or scrape them with your shoes on, and their tough synthetic neoprene provides some added abrasion resistance.

These are great for those cool but not cold days, as Giro recommends them for wear in conditions between 55 and 65 degrees Fahrenheit. Still, they’re small and affordable enough to pack and use as some extra protection when you need them.

These shoe coverings are for those who want something super lightweight that can protect those expensive cycling shoes from road dirt and grime. They’ll also warm your feet, of course, as they’ll engulf your kicks with stretchy nylon that smooths out around your shoes’ shape. They have a zipper closure for an easy fit, and they come in two colors: black and neon green.

They won't, however, keep your kicks completely dry in rainy conditions, nor will they warm on intensely cool days. According to several Amazon reviewers, they’re best reserved for summer days and cool fall weather, protecting against road grime without providing true weatherproofing.

Softshell shoe covers are practical for when you want less of a plastic feel on your feet while riding and want to avoid that crunching sound you'll get from sturdier covers. This pair from Pearl Izumi is made with a mixture of elastane, Kevlar, polyamide, and polyester, a combination of fabrics that makes these shoe covers quiet, abrasion-resistant, and easily pliable.

They’re great for wind protection and water-resistance, and their Kevlar bottom paneling means minor tears and scraps are a thing of the past. They fit with a hook-and-loop closure and are simple to get on and off, meaning you can easily warm up and shed layers on the fly.
